What a low-pass filter does
A low-pass filter lets low frequencies pass through while attenuating frequencies above the cutoff. Use it to remove hiss, soften harsh recordings, or create lo-fi/old-radio effects.
Common use cases
- 15-18 kHz — gentle hiss reduction without dulling the sound
- 8 kHz — moderate softening for harsh recordings
- 3-4 kHz — telephone or vintage radio effect
- 1 kHz — heavy underwater/muffled effect
