How this BPM detector works
The tool builds an energy envelope of your track (peak amplitude per 10ms window), then autocorrelates the envelope across plausible BPM ranges (60-200) to find the dominant periodicity. The frequency with the strongest correlation is the detected BPM.
Accuracy notes
- Works best on music with clear, consistent beats (EDM, hip-hop, rock, pop)
- Less accurate on classical, ambient, or freely-timed music
- May report half-time or double-time on certain genres (e.g., reads 70 instead of 140)
- Typical accuracy: ±2 BPM on well-produced music
